At Proplate, we are committed to sustainable operations. We build long-term partnerships with our customers that prioritize both economic and environmental sustainability.
Sustainability lies at the heart of our mission. We recognize that the entire production chain—from steel manufacturers to end users—is shifting toward sustainable practices. As a manufacturer of steel components positioned in the middle of this chain, we take our responsibility for environmentally sustainable operations seriously.
We actively explore new ideas to steadily improve our sustainability through small actions—like recycling thinners, coffee machines, and cleaning cloths, and implementing LED lighting across the factory.
Sustainable Production and Supply Chain
We maximize material utilization by using custom-sized plates tailored to each component and leveraging advanced nesting software to minimize scrap.
Naturally, all unused material is recycled. Steel is 100% recyclable and can be reused repeatedly without any loss of quality.
Proplate is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards, and we continuously strive to improve in both big and small ways. Recent initiatives include implementing a new control system for ventilation and compressor networks—reducing energy consumption by 13%—recycling all heat from cutting machines in our largest hall, and replacing all factory lighting with energy-efficient LEDs, saving energy equivalent to powering ten residential homes.
Fewer Trucks - Lower CO2 Emissions
A significant portion of the steel plates used by Proplate comes directly from our neighbor, SSAB. Thanks to our close proximity to this world-leading steel manufacturer, no raw material transportation is required. With up to 50,000 tons of steel plate cut annually, this saves countless miles of truck transport—reducing environmental impact and supporting sustainability.
The next link in the sustainable chain is the delivery of finished components. All transportation is optimized for environmental impact. We maximize the use of nearby railway and shipping options, and when using trucks, we aim for full loads. Our goal is to provide the most economical and environmentally friendly supply chain in the market.
Sustainable Collaboration
Collaboration with other sustainable partners is fundamental to Proplate. The wind power industry is one of our key customer groups, and many of our other partners are actively advancing their sustainability efforts. For example, in the mining industry, several customers are transitioning their machinery from diesel to electric power. Additionally, steel manufacturer SSAB is investing in fossil-free steel production, aiming for implementation by 2026.
CSRD
Proplate has long supported UNICEF’s work for children worldwide. Locally, we also back youth programs through partnerships with community sports associations.
As a participant in the wind power industry, Proplate has collaborated with KTH's Engineers Without Borders. With Proplate’s support, dedicated KTH students worked alongside local organizations in Tanzania to provide Wembere Secondary School — serving nearly 250 students — with wind and solar power for offices, dormitories, and classrooms.
Investing in Healthy Employees
We are committed to providing our employees with excellent conditions to maintain good health. One way we support this is by offering exercise during working hours. Every week, we pause all machinery for two hours to engage in physical activity. We believe that exercising during the workday also brings positive benefits to our overall operations.
