Proplate is the world’s leading manufacturer of tension bars for lifting cranes — critical components that ensure structural integrity under extreme loads. Measuring up to 17 meters in length, our tension bars connect and stabilize key sections of crawler cranes, port cranes, mobile cranes, and specialty lifting equipment. These bars are subjected to the highest stress levels on the crane. To ensure maximum durability and safety in all conditions, each bar is precision-manufactured from high-strength structural steel, including SSAB’s premium Strenx® grades.

Proplate’s tension bars deliver exceptional reliability and safety for all types of heavy-lift crane operations. In crawler cranes with lifting capacities of up to 3,000 tons, our tension bars connect the boom to the counterweights, playing a critical role in maintaining crane stability.
We manufacture the tension bars in-house and manage the entire production chain at our own facility — from plasma cutting and CNC machining to welding, assembly, painting, and final testing.
We specialize in manufacturing large, long, and complex components in specialty steel — producing struts ranging from 0.5 to 17 meters in length. Our deep expertise in high-strength steel manufacturing, combined with the extensive capacity of our facility, makes us the world’s leading supplier of tension bars for lifting cranes.
Strength You Can Trust – Precision Tension Bars in High-Performance Steel
Our production facility is purpose-built for large-scale manufacturing of long, complex tension bars for lifting cranes, installation-ready upon arrival at our customers' facilities. Most of the tension bars we plasma cut from high-strength steel, typically Strenx® 960 from our neighbor SSAB. For components as long and slender as crane tension bars — subjected to extreme stress — precision in the cutting process is critical. We use fine plasma cutting and have the capability to perform underwater cutting on all machines, minimizing heat-affected zones (HAZ) and preserving the integrity of the steel.
The tension bars then move through our complete in-house production chain — including grinding, blasting, CNC machining, assembly, painting, and testing — before delivery to the crane manufacturer. For the longest struts, we also weld components together to achieve the required length.
Reliable Compression Tension Bars for Demanding Port Crane Operations
We also produce high-performance tension bars for port cranes — engineered for strength, precision, and seamless installation. Plasma-cut and CNC-machined attachment components are expertly welded onto steel tubes, ensuring a perfect fit and reliable performance in demanding crane operations.
Through advanced nesting and custom-ordered plates in adapted formats, we maximize plate utilization for more sustainable and cost-effective production. Our production facility is designed for large-scale, high-quality manufacturing of large and complex components. We are specialists in this type of manufacturing and take pride in our Proplate Straps that ensure safety in lifting cranes worldwide.
Cut from High-Strength Steel Plate
We manufacture our struts from high-strength steel plate, such as Strenx®, sourced directly from our neighbor SSAB's steel mill. This logistical proximity shortens the delivery time for materials and consequently reduces the lead time for the final product.
Proplate operates independently of steel producers and selects the material that best suits each customer’s application. For tension bars, we typically use SSAB’s high-performance Strenx® steel — but every decision is guided by what material and supplier best meet the specific needs of the project.
