Structural steel boasts high tensile strength and low ductility, making it a preferred choice for large load-bearing structures such as buildings, bridges, and ships. Its relatively low weight, combined with these properties, makes high-strength structural steel ideal for specialized applications like our tension bars, which hold together the framework of the world’s largest cranes.

High-Strength Structural Steel

High-strength steels such as SSAB:s high-performance Strenx®, Dillinger's Dillimax®, and NLMK Clabecq's Quend® offer superior tensile strength compared to standard steel grades. These steels create lighter structures due to their lower weight while maintaining excellent formability.

With superior high-performance properties, high-strength steel delivers strength where it’s needed most—such as in large load-bearing structures. Its higher yield point compared to ordinary steel allows it to withstand significant stresses and return to its original shape once the stress is removed.

These properties make the steel ideal for applications like our tension bars for cranes. These bars hold together the world’s largest crane structures and are subjected to the greatest stress, connecting the boom to the counterweights and ensuring stability during lifts of up to 3,000 tons. The tie rods we supply to our crane manufacturing customers Liebherr, Kobelco and Manitowoc manufactured primarily from Strenx®

We collaborate with several leading steel manufacturers and maintain independence from specific suppliers. However, our close proximity to SSAB’s steel mill in Oxelösund enables us to offer customers easy and seamless access to Strenx®. The short transport distances not only result in faster deliveries but also bring significant environmental benefits. Being so close allows us to save countless truck transport miles, and scrap generated after cutting is processed directly on-site.

Large-Scale Production of Components in High-Strength Structural Steel

Traceability from the finished component all the way back to the production of the high-strength steel plate at the mill is ensured by a unique engraved Proplate number. 

Ordinary Structural Steel

Standard steel with low alloy content offers a cost-effective solution for various steel components. Ordinary structural steel arrives at Proplate as thick heavy plate, typically starting from 10 mm. We can cut steel up to 300 mm thick.

Thanks to the steel’s excellent machinability, our cutting and processing expertise, and our proximity to SSAB’s steel mill—which enables shorter delivery times—we help our customers reduce lead times for components made from ordinary steel.

Reliable Production of Ordinary Steel Components

Proplate delivers high-capacity, end-to-end production for components made from ordinary structural steel. Our efficient and flexible production model handles large volumes with precision, allowing us to supply assembly-ready components quickly and seamlessly—helping our customers streamline their production and reduce lead times.

Our services cover oxy-fuel and plasma cutting, machining, bending, blasting, welding, assembly, painting, and corrosion protection treatments for heavy plate made from ordinary structural steel.
